King County Programs

The following programs are scheduled for our 2008-09 program year.
Each program is free to those who meet the eligibility guidelines.

ADULT PROGRAMS

Seattle Jobs Initiative

In partnership with the Seattle Jobs Initiative, CCA offers sector training, individualized job placement and retention services to low-income adult job seekers living in the City of Seattle.

CCA Welding Student

Office Occupations

Each individual completes an intensive 22-week Office Occupations course at Seattle Vocational Institute.  Students train to work in an office position.  The program includes: MS Office XP (Word,  Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) customer service skills, keyboarding, data entry, filing and a 10-week Internship. The program also covers résumé writing, interview skills, and teaches individuals how to thrive in an office environment.

    CCA Office Occupations Student

Welding

Students train to work in an industrial setting where they will weld, work on machinery, perform precision measurement and other general duties surrounding manufacturing and production.  Each individual completes a very intensive welding course at South Seattle Community College.  The course teaches the following skills: Basic math and blueprint reading and upon graduation they will be well-versed in basic welding techniques: Dual Shield, Inner Shield, Outer Shield Mig, Forklift certification and First Aide training.  The program also covers résumé writing and interview skills.

 Individualized Placement

Each individual completes an intensive two-week Job Readiness Program.  Course content includes determining the kind of job they are seeking, self assessment of skills, writing applications, résumés and cover letters, interviewing and job search.

SPECIALIZED INDIVIDUALIZED PLACEMENT

Forklift Operator Training/Certification: provides "hands on" training on forklift trucks designed to prepare individuals with theory and knowledge for required OSHA safety rules, regulations and forklift operation driving skills.  A three (3) year forklift operators certificate is received upon successful completion of the course.  The certification is valid and recognized anywhere within the USA.

Citizenship/ESL

Provides citizenship preparation/English-as-a-Second Language for immigrants and refugees in King County.  Services are provided at  New Holly Family Center in Seattle and Springwood Development Center in Kent.


 

King County Jobs Initiative

 

In partnership with the King County Jobs Initiative, CCA offers customized job skills training, case management, job placement assistance and retention services to low-income job seekers living in targeted areas in King County.

 

Skills - White Center

Programs serving residents of White Center are offered.  Each individual completes an intensive one-week Job Readiness Program.  Course content includes determining the kind of job they are seeking, self assessment of skills, writing applications, résumés and cover letters, interviewing and job search.

The job-seekers may be recent graduates from various community college classes, including: Warehouse (Forklift), Business Occupations, Computer Training (A+ certification), Environmental Technician, Nursing Assistant Certified, Phlebotomy and various other short-term training.

King County Housing Authority

SPRINGWOOD CAREER DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Operates the Career Development Center at Springwood, in partnership with the King County Housing Authority.  Providing job skills training and employment services to public housing residents and other low-income job seekers in the vicinity.

Job Readiness Training

 

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Comprehensive Education Center

Provides high school students (ages 16 to 20 years of age) who are at risk of dropping out or are behind in credit with the opportunity to improve their math, reading, and writing skills in order to earn credit and return to school or to complete their GED.  Students  also receive job readiness and placement assistance, life skills instruction around legal, health, parenting, substance abuse, and housing issues, community service opportunities, transition into post secondary training, and access to on-line learning through the community college.  



  G.E.D. Graduates 

Middle School Re-entry Program

Provides expelled and suspended students (ages 11-14 years of age, 6th through 8th grade) with the opportunity to continue their education as they improve their behavior, attendance, and academics in order to return to school.  It is a full day program, which includes instruction to accelerate academic skills, behavior and anger management instruction, attendance follow-up, life skills activities around substance abuse, legal, and health issues, physical education at the local recreation center, and community service activities.

In-School Youth Program

Provides low-income youth, who are behind in school, with the opportunity to maintain their academic skills in the summer while they participate in paid work experience.  Youth (16-17 years of age) earn  credit and a paycheck, and are better prepared to continue their education.  The students participate in workshops throughout the school year to help them with tutoring, access to resources, maintain their attendance, improve their job finding skills, and maintain their focus of staying in school.

The Seattle Team for Youth

Provides case management services to youth who have been expelled, suspended, dropped out or at risk of dropping out of school, in order to help them re-enter school and continue their education.  Youth must be 13 to 19 years of age, live in the city of Seattle, and meet low-income guidelines.
